In lieu of a press release (and because it’s not even close to done yet), I’m making this little announcement for you readers.
Many of you know of my huge love of RPGs; it shapes the way I write my novels, and my years of experience playing them has contributed heavily to my ability to build worlds. Many of you also share that love, and have prodded me over the last two years with the same question: ‘Dude, have you ever considered making an RPG set in the Wonderland universe?’ The truth is that I have, but I didn’t want to consider the possibility at the time due to the lack of maturity of the universe and its content. Now, with the third and final book of the Wonderland Cycle in production and the immediate fate of the universe and its population to be determined, I feel that it’s time to set things in motion.
I’m pleased and proud to announce that I will be producing a series of roleplaying games set in the Wonderland universe. The game, which has yet to be titled, will allow players to explore the spiritually bankrupt, hyperconsumerist dystopia that my novels are set in – not just the threefold city of Seattle, but many other locations across the ravaged world. Ten books are planned for electronic release, with print copies being an option that will be explored with funding. The core book and PALE WRATH, the Yathi companion book, are already in production. Given that no RPG exists without art and secondary materials, however, you can be sure that a Kickstarter will be involved because art ain’t cheap.
More news will come as things proceed, but I thought you’d like to know where the future lies. I’ll continue writing books, of course – that’s not going to change even if I wanted it to – but this is a direction I’ve wanted to go in a very long time. I look forward to hearing from you on this topic.
